How to Glue Tyvek to Insulation

When working with DuPont-manufactured Tyvek, attaching it to insulation may be necessary to help increase the water and air resistance in the area. Gluing the Tyvek to the insulation is one way of attaching it. Adhesives that are based in natural products, such as starch or casein work better than synthetic adhesives, which may cause wrinkling at high temperatures.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the area on the wall or ceiling where the insulation is present. Cut a piece of Tyvek large enough to extend over the area. Use a sharp utility knife when making the cut, going through all the fibers.

    • 2

Fill a tray with a water-based adhesive. Lay the Tyvek on a flat surface and apply a layer of the adhesive onto the back with a glue roller.

    • 3

Pick up the Tyvek, with the help of an assistant if the piece is very large. Line up the Tyvek over the area of insulation and press it into place. Run your hands over it to ensure it adheres to the insulation beneath.
