How to Connect Weeping Tile

A weeping tile, also known as a drain tile, is not a tile at all in the conventional sense. Weeping tile is actually a perforated pipe. It is commonly made out of plastic but can be made out of clay or concrete. Weeping tile is used to collect water drainage around the home. It can be installed on the outside of the house or connected to the sump pump on the inside of the home.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect your sump pump basin to determine if there are any holes present for the weeping tile. If not, drill a small hole 10 1/2 inches below the top of the sump pump basis for the weeping tile. This hole should be 4 1/2 inches in diameter.

    • 2

Slide the end of the weeping tile into the hole on the sump pump basin.

    • 3

Secure the weeping tile connection to the sump pump with a 45-degree elbow, a straight connector and check valve. You have to apply PVC primer to the edges to make the connection tight and ensure there are no leaks.
