How to Test Chloride on Concrete

Conduct the Test

  Remove the container of calcium chloride from the kit and weigh it on a digital scale in grams to the nearest 0.1 gram.

  Write the weight on the label on the calcium chloride container and indicate the time on the label you begin the test.

  Remove the lid from the container and set it aside.

  Place the calcium chloride container onto the concrete floor.

  Take off the strip covering the double-stick tape on the bottom edges of the clear plastic dome and place the dome over the calcium chloride container.

  Take the box from the kit and tape it upside down over the dome to ensure the dome remains in place.

  Wait for 60 to 72 hours for the calcium chloride container to absorb moisture.

  Remove the box and plastic dome and weigh the container. Record the new weight and time the test was completed on the label.

Calculate the Results

  Subtract the initial weight from the final weight to find the weight gain in grams.

  Multiply the weight gain in grams by 49,383 to convert the grams to pounds.

  Multiply the hours the test lasted by 454.

• 12

  Divide the first number by the second number to determine the pounds of moisture emission per 1,000 square feet.
