Do-it-Yourself Leaf Blower Hovercraft

Hovercrafts are vehicles that glide over the surface of the ground by way of air pressure and can be constructed on a large or small scale. For example, you can make a simple hovercraft using a standard leaf blower and basic materials that can be found around the house or purchased inexpensively from a home improvement store. This allows you to experience what it is like to float around on a hovercraft, without spending a fortune.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a circle from 1-inch-thick pressboard using a circular saw to measure 4 feet in diameter. Drill a hole through the center of the pressboard circle using a drill with a 1/4-inch drill bit.

    • 2

Cut a sheet of thick landscaping plastic to measure 60 inches square using shears. Poke a hole in the center of the square using a nail.

    • 3

Remove the plastic top from a large coffee can, then poke a hole through the center of the lid using the nail.

    • 4

Drill a hole into the top of the pressboard circle using a drill with a 3-inch spade bit and discard the cut-out piece of pressboard.

    • 5

Stack the landscaping plastic on top of the coffee can lid. Place a washer underneath the coffee can lid and insert a 3-inch-long screw up through the holes.

    • 6

Screw the pressboard circle on top of the landscaping plastic, then place a second washer on top of the screw. Attach a 1/2-inch nut over the screw to hold the entire device in place.

    • 7

Insert the mouth of a leaf blower into the hole. Sit on the pressboard circle and turn on the leaf blower to ride around.
