How to Hook Pulleys to Trusses

A pulley system is useful for hoisting up heavy objects and suspending them to a triangular truss. Together, pulleys and trusses can function to get a heavy lifting job done. It is critical, however, to ensure that the connection between the pulley and the truss is secure before the system is utilized. If you do not hook the pulley to the truss properly, the contraption could malfunction and cause the heavy object to fall and injure someone.

Instructions

Measure the diameter of the pulley's hook with a caliper. Determine the dimension in inches, such as 1/4-inch diameter. Fit this diameter to a screw eye shank so that the screw eye's shank is large enough for the pulley's hook to go through.

Use a power drill to make a small hole in the truss where you want the pulley to connect. The hole that you drill should be approximately the same size as the dimension of the screw eye. Twist the screw eye into the hole in clockwise rotation until the screw eye is firmly in place.

Attach the pulley bracket to a joist, based on the direction in which you want the pulley and truss to hook together. Affixing the bracket to a joist that is in the ceiling helps to ensure that the pulley is secure. Identify the holes in the pulley bracket. Place screws on the end of the power drill and screw the bracket into place at the holes. Now your pulley system is connected to the ceiling.

Weave the pulley's hook through the screw eye shank to hook the pulley to the truss.
