How to Install Wooden Handrails as a Room Divider

Handrails are traditionally used along staircases and walkways, but you can use them creatively as a room divider. Install posts across the room and install handrails to each side of the posts to divide the room. The room divider is an ideal complement to modern open-style rooms. You will be able to maintain an open appearance throughout the room while creating a division of the space. Dividing a space visually allows you to make more effective use of the living space in a room.

Drive the mounting screws that were included with the deck post mounts through the mounting holes into the floor using a screw gun.

    • 3

Place one end of each post into the deck post mounts. Drive the screws included with the deck post mounts through the mounting holes into the posts.

    • 4

Position one handrail bracket 18, 28 and 32 inches from the floor on each side of the division. Fasten the brackets to the posts by driving the screws included with the brackets through the mounting holes into the posts with a screw gun.

Center a handrail across each corresponding set of handrail brackets along the posts. Drive the screws included with the brackets through the mounting holes in the brackets into the bottom of the handrails.
