Instructions

    • 1

Cut the wooden strips to the exact length you want the wood dome top to be. Cut enough to cover the top and a couple extra, just in case. Align all the strips side by side and tape them together with packing tape.

    • 2

Cut the first and last strip at a 45-degree angle.

    • 3

Bend the set of strips together until it forms a dome. Place the dome on top of the fixture where you want to use it, such as a chest. Tape the bottom of the dome to the chest to hold it in place.

    • 4

Measure the width of the chest or fixture where you want to add the dome. Cut the 1/2-inch wood panel so it is the same width as the fixture, in the shape of a rectangle, this will form a side panel for the dome. Place the strips over the rectangle panel and cut the top of the panel to match the dome shape of the strips, this ensures the top of the side panel fits under the dome. Repeat these steps to create two side panels for the dome top.

Glue the side pieces to the fixture and the strips that form the dome, then drill screws into the fixture to keep it securely in place. Remove the tape and sand the wood dome to give it a smooth finish.
