Position a ladder in a flat area that allows you to climb up and down safely. Put on thick work gloves, since the edge of the 5V panels are often sharp.
Prepare the plywood roof surface by covering it in rows of roofing felt, overlapping each row of felt by at least 2 inches to prevent gaps. Cut each row of felt off using a utility knife and secure the felt to the roof every 6 to 10 inches using 1-inch, galvanized roofing nails and a nail gun.
Place the first 5V panel at the left edge of the roof and slide it down until it overhangs the roof eave by at least 2 to 3 inches.
Locate the crimped ridges that reside on the left and right side of the panel. Insert 1-inch-long, double-washer wood screws into the panel directly at the bottom of the ridges using a power drill. Space the screws at 6- to 10-inch intervals all the way up the panel and ensure the rubber washers are securely touching the panels.
Lay a second 5V panel above the first one, overlapping it by 6 inches. Secure it to the roof using more screws.
Continue installing 5V panels until you reach the peak of the roof. Cut the top V panel using electric sheet metal shears, or a metal cutting blade in a circular saw. Secure the panel to the roof with screws. Wear eye protection when cutting the metal panels.
Move back to the first bottom panel installed and apply a strip of 3/8-inch butyl caulk tape over the right side where the next row will overlap. Position the tape at the top left side of the “V” formed by the edge of the panel.
Start the second vertical row of panels beside the first overhanging the bottom edge of the roof by 2 to 3 inches and overlapping the first panel of rows by 6 inches. Continue installing side-by-side rows until the entire roof is covered.
