Instructions

    • 1

Identify the height above the floor that you'd like for the horizontal bar. Record this measurement. Measure the distance from the bottom of the ceiling joists in the garage to the floor. Subtract the height of the bar from the previous measurement. Add 4 inches to this figure and record the measurement.

    • 2

Cut two 2-by-4-inch boards to match the last measurement from the previous step.

    • 3

Drill a 1 1/2-inch hole, centered 3 inches from one end, into each of the boards.

    • 4

Place a ladder by your ceiling joist. Hold the end of one of the boards vertically against the joist, with the end with the hole on the lower side. Overlap the board and the joist by 2 inches, and nail the board to the joist with three nails.

    • 5

Place your second board on a different joist, separated by the distance you want for the horizontal bar. Nail it to the joist.

    • 6

Slide a 1 1/2-inch metal pipe through the holes in the two boards. Place the caps on the ends to prevent the pipe from sliding out
