Measure the wall where you'll be fitting the insulation panels. Insulation panels typically are sold in 4-foot-by-8-foot sheets. With your wall dimensions known, determine the number of sheets you'll need and note any obstructions or openings you'll need to cut around.
Place an foam insulation sheet at the corner of a wall. If you need to trim the panel around any obstructions or openings, score the surface of the panel at the correct distances with a sharp utility knife, guided by a straightedge. Snap off the excess foam panel with your hands after scoring the surface. If your ceiling is 8 feet high, you won't need to cut off the length. If your ceiling is 7 feet, 6 inches, however, you'll need to cut off 6 inches by scoring and breaking.
Ensure that the wall is clean. Apply construction adhesive to the back of the panel with a caulking gun. Place the panel against the wall and hold it for several minutes until the glue has a chance to set.
Trim your next panel, if necessary, and place it in position on the wall. Continue laying panels until you've covered the entire surface.
Apply vinyl tape over the seams between the panels when you've finished laying the panels.
