How to Build Wooden Book Ends

Wooden bookends are a functional and decorative addition to any home library. You can craft bookends in many different designs, according to your personal preference. Bookends are fairly easy to make, and you can finish them to match the style of your room.

      Measure and mark the wood where you need to cut it. You will need two pieces 8 inches long and two pieces 6 inches long.

      Smooth all surfaces of the wood with sandpaper. Remove any remaining sawdust. Stand one 6-inch piece of wood on its side. Attach an 8-inch piece of wood to it, creating an L shape, with both bottom edges flush with each other. Hammer nails through the pieces to connect them, and repeat the process with the remaining two pieces of wood.

      Paint your bookends. You can either spray paint or paint by hand with a brush. You can also add details like stencils or stickers. Add a protective top coat to help the bookends hold up better.
