How to Install a Differential Pressure Gauge

Installing a differential pressure gauge means arranging the gauge and its probes around an air flow. The gauge and its two probes together make up a pilot tube assembly. The assembly measures air velocity, which you occasionally need to monitor in air vents to ensure a working ventilation system. Position the assembly's two probes - a static pressure probe and a total pressure probe - along and across the flow of air so you can monitor its speed.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the total pressure probe into the differential pressure gauge's "high" port.

    • 2

Insert the static pressure probe into the differential pressure gauge's "low" port.

    • 3

Place the static pressure probe so that it points perpendicular to the direction of air flow.

    • 4

Place the total pressure probe so that it runs parallel to the air flow.

    • 5

Read the differential pressure gauge's reading. It specifies the air velocity pressure.
