The Best Place to Install HVAC

Heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are a widely installed type of climate control system. When installing a new system, placement of components is key for overall comfort and energy savings over the life of the system.
  1. Identification

    • HVAC is comprised of a fan and coil component, a condenser, refrigerant piping and duct work. Each individual home is different, so installation varies in size and planning, but some components warrant specific placement for functionality and contentment.

    Placement

    • The condenser is typically placed outside, due to its noisy nature. Keep the condenser close to the home for lower piping costs. Keep it far from any sensitive rooms, such as a bedroom or office, that can be disturbed from the condenser's functioning. Additionally, the fan and coil component can be placed within the home, such as in a large closet or laundry room area.

    Considerations

    • Duct work should be placed strategically so there is as little travel as possible for the forced air to encourage energy savings. Keep duct work as straight as possible, avoiding sharp turns or bends in the material, so air is not blocked within the system.
