Is There a Switch That Connects the Coach Lights to Electricity?

Due to the fact that coach lights are not required by any electrical code, they can be wired in a couple of different ways. Coach lights can be wired direct with a photocell, or switched.
  1. Switched Coach Lights

    • If your coach lights are switched, the location of the switch will be either in the garage by the door leading into the home or inside near the front entry door.

    Photocell-Controlled Coach Lights

    • Photocell-controlled coach lights can be wired directly to the fixtures if they have built-in photocells. They can also be wired to an external box if one is added outside the garage, usually near the electrical panel, where a photocell is installed to control the lights.

Adding a Switch for Coach Lights

    • If your coach lights are only controlled by a photocell, an electrician can add a switch at the location of the power source, which is usually the switch box near the garage entry into the home. The switch can usually be added without much trouble by changing the way the wires in the electrical box are tied together and adding a double switch. The double switch only takes up the space of one normal switch, so adding a new box is not necessary.
