Solarium Uses

Solariums can be described as "greenhouses for people." They are framed structures with glass sides and roofs that enclose porches or branch off the side of a house. There are various use options for homeowners considering adding a solarium to their house.
  1. Entertainment Area

    • Solariums add extra space that can be used as an entertainment area. Solariums with bars, entertainment centers and billiards allow homeowners to host gatherings all year round. These gatherings have the feel of outdoor gatherings but the benefit of temperature and pest control.

    Pool Enclosure

    • Indoor pool facilities are sometimes housed in solariums. The glass walls of the solarium provide light and warmth to the poolroom while keeping out debris. Solariums also make pools usable all year by keeping out foul weather, cold temperatures and outdoor pests.

    Greenhouse

    • The warmth of a solarium creates a perfect atmosphere for growing plants. In the winter, solariums retain heat from the sun during the day while thermal windows retain heat at night. Tropical plants can be brought into solariums during the winter to be kept warm. In the spring, solariums can be used to house germinating plants before they are replanted outside.

    Healing Area

    • Solariums also function as healing sun-rooms. Natural light can uplift the mood and help combat vitamin D deficiencies. The elderly or the ill sometimes enjoy solariums for the healing effects of sunlight and natural views while reducing their exposure to outside pollen and pollution that can aggravate conditions.
