Do it Yourself Work Table

Work tables are easily made in woodshops, garages, or barns with moderate carpentry experience. They have many uses for hobbies, wood projects, or other maintenance projects that may take place around the home. Work tables should be durable, and should be built to last. Choosing the right materials, like standard construction lumber, is a good idea because the wood is strong and relatively inexpensive. A sturdy work table can be built in an hour or so.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the 48-inch boards on edge, parallel, and 27 inches apart. Set two 27-inch boards between them so they are perpendicular to the 48-inch boards, and so they are 45 inches apart. Screw through the 48-inch boards and into the ends of the 27-inch boards so you have a 30 by 48 inch frame with flush corners. Use eight screws for this task.

    • 2

Position a 33-inch board so it stands upright inside each corner of the frame. Screw two screws through the 48-inch boards on the frame and into each of the 33-inch boards. These are the legs of your table.

    • 3

Turn your table frame upright, and screw a 27-inch board to each pair of 33-inch boards. The 27-inch boards should be parallel with the other 27-inch boards, on the opposite side of the legs, and 15 inches below the frame. Use eight screws for this task.

    • 4

Position the 38-inch board perpendicular and between the bottom 27-inch board. Screw through the 13 ½-inch centers of the 27-inch boards, and into the ends of the 38-inch board. The edges between these three boards should be flush. Use four screws for this task.

    • 5

Lay your plywood on top of the table so all of the edges are flush. Screw the plywood to the 48-inch boards on the frame, and space the eight screws 12 inches apart.
