How to Make a Stand Up Hay Rack

Lay your 36-inch plywood flat and vertical. Measure 12 inches away from the bottom left corner along the 24-inch edge and draw a line up towards the top left corner. Measure 12 inches away from the bottom right corner, and draw a line up towards the top right corner. These lines should mirror each other. Repeat this process on the other 36-inch plywood. These are the ends to your hay rack.

Lay two 72-inch boards flat, parallel and with their outside edges 38 inches apart. Lay four 38-inch boards perpendicularly across them so their ends are flush with the boards. Space the boards 10 inches apart with the two outside boards 10 inches away from the ends of the 72-inch boards. Screw the 38-inch boards to the 72-inch boards. Use eight 2-inch screws for this task and repeat this step. These are the sides to your hay rack.

Position the ends of your hay rack on their 24-inch edges, parallel, 72 inches apart, with their lines facing each other and aligned. Position the sides of your hay rack perpendicularly between the ends of the rack, so the ends of the 72-inch boards rest along the lines and are between the 38-inch boards. Screw through the plywood ends and into the 72-inch boards. Use 16 screws for this task. This is your rack bin that will hold your hay.

Place a 60-inch board flat against the rack ends so there is a board flush with each 36-inch edge of the ends. The ends of the 60-inch boards should be flush with the 24-inch edge of the plywood. These are the legs to your rack. Screw through the plywood and into the legs. The bin should open upward towards the sky. Use four screws for each leg.

Lay your 72-inch plywood in the bin so it rests on the 72-inch boards. Fill your hay rack with hay and let your goats begin to feed.
