How to Build an Angled File Holder

Angled file holders are often found in offices and libraries. They are used to hold standard size folders, papers and documents. They differ from other types of file holders because of how they are angled. Angled file holders allow easier access to the documents they are holding. The angle in the holder also allows files to be browsed through with ease. Building an angled file holder is a simple task for someone with moderate carpentry experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your plywood flat. Measure 4¾ inches from the top left corner along the edge and draw an "x". Measure 5½ inches from the bottom right corner along the edge and draw another "x". Use your straightedge to draw a diagonal line that connects the "x" marks. Repeat this process on the other sheet of plywood.

    • 2

Cut along the line on each piece of plywood with your miter saw. These angled cuts are what will define your angled file holder.

    • 3

Position one 11½-inch board on edge. Position the other 11½-inch board and the 4½-inch board perpendicular to and against the 11½-inch board so they are on edge and 9½-inches apart. Screw through the first 11½-inch board and into the ends of the other two boards. Use four screws for this task.

    • 4

Lay one piece of plywood on top of the three boards from the last step so all of the edges are flush. You should not be able to see the boards underneath the plywood when looking directly over the plywood. Screw the plywood to the boards using three screws for the two 11½-inch boards and two screws for the 4½-inch board. Turn the file holder frame over and repeat this process with your last piece of plywood.
