DIY Drum Racks

Drum racks are used for storing wine, water and other liquid containing vessels. They store the barrels or drums horizontally and allow the contents to be easily removed without removing the drum from the rack. A versatile design for drum rack will allow the option of how high you would like to stack your barrels. One rack will function as the base for two drums, a second rack will function as a spacer to hold for drums and the third will be a spacer for storing six drums. The racking system will only require the floorspace of two drums.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your plywood flat so the 22-inch edges are horizontal. Measure 2 inches toward the center from the top left corner along the edge and draw a dot. Measure 2 inches toward the center from the right corner along the edge and draw another dot. Measure 3 inches down from the 11-inch center of the top edge and draw one more dot. Use your pencil and string to draw an arc that starts from the top left dot, intersects through the middle dot and ends at the dot on the right. Rotate the board 180-degrees and repeat this process. Repeat this step with each piece of plywood.

Cut along the arcs with your jigsaw. These curves will hold your drums.

Lay a 60-inch board flat and horizontal. Lay two pieces of plywood on top of so their 18-inch edges are perpendicular to the 60-inch edges. The deepest part of the curves should be flush with the edge of the board. Space the sheets 16 inches apart so their outside edges are flush with the ends of the board. Screw the plywood to the board using four 2 1/2-inch screws for each sheet. Turn the board over so it is on top of the plywood and repeat this process with two more sheets. Repeat this step with the last four sheets of plywood and the last 60-inch board. These are the front and back sides to your drum rack.

Position your sides so they're parallel, standing on their 22-inch edges of the plywood and 30 inches apart. Position a 30-inch board perpendicularly between the sides so it is aligned with the 30-inch center of the 60-inch board. Its edges should be flush with the 60-inch boards edges. Screw through the 30-inch center of the 60-inch board and into the 30-inch board. Use six 3-inch screws for this task.

Position a 33-inch board against the ends of the 60-inch board on both sides. Screw through the boards and into the ends of the 60-inch board. The corners and edges should be flush. Use twelve 3-inch screws for this task. Set your drums or barrels on top of the rack so they rest in the curves. Repeat these plans and place another rack on top of the pair of barrels. Do not stack the barrels in the rack more than three barrels high.
