How to Make Frames From 2 x 4s

Using 2-by-4-inch boards is common for framing of all kinds. They are standard construction lumber and are made out of pine wood. In many cases, 2-by-4 boards are used for table frames and workbench frames. Frames like these are easily constructed out of 2-by-4 boards and will make for a sturdy table or workbench once the top is added for completion. These boards are one of the most common forms of lumber and can be purchased at just about any local lumber yard.

Instructions

    • 1

Set two 27-inch boards on edge so they are parallel and 24 inches apart. Place two 24-inch boards perpendicularly between them so they're also on edge and 24 inches apart.

    • 2

Screw through the sides of the 27-inch boards and into the ends of the 24-inch boards. The corners of this 2-by-4 frame should be flush. Use eight screws for this task.

    • 3

Position a 32-inch board perpendicularly inside each corner of the frame. The 4-inch sides of the boards should be flat against the 27-inch boards and their 2-inch sides should be against the 24-inch boards. Screw through the corners of the frame and into the 32-inch boards. These are the legs to your table frame.

    • 4

Turn your table frame upright so it is standing on its legs. Your table frame is now ready for its table top or workbench top.
