Do-It-Yourself Backdrop Stand

Back drop stands are used for taking photos, giving presentations and other formal activities. Often time film producers will use a backdrop to shoot in front of a blue screen. Backdrop stands are often wide enough for at least two people to stand in front of and are taller than six feet for those who are above average height. Backdrop stands can be made out of a few pieces of PVC pipe. PVC pipe is a strong plastic that is relatively inexpensive.

Instructions

    • 1

Glue one end of two 24-inch pipes and insert them into the top two holes of one of the T-joints. Glue an end cap on the each of the other ends of the two pipes. Repeat this step with the last two 24-inch pipes and the last two end caps. These pieces will be the base of your backdrop stand.

    • 2

Glue one end of two 40-inch pipes and insert them into the top two holes of a T-joint. Glue one elbow on the end of one of the pipes. It does not matter which pipe however, the bend in the elbow must be aligned with the base of the T-joint. This is the side to your backdrop stand. Repeat this step to make the other side.

    • 3

Apply the glue to the pipe without the elbow one of the sides and insert it into the T-joint on one of the bases. The T-joint on the side should be perpendicular to the pipes on the base. Repeat this step with the other side and base.

    • 4

Position the sides so they are standing on their bases, 60 inches apart and so the T-joints and elbows are facing each other and aligned. Glue the ends of the 60-inch pipes and insert them into the elbow joints and the T-joints.
