How to Build a Vinyl Cutter Stand

A vinyl cutting stand is used to hold rolls of vinyl that can be spread out easily and cut on the stand. A versatile vinyl cutting stand will be able to hold small rolls and large rolls that are 12 inches in diameter and 48 inches long. These stands involve a construction that is similar to many workbenches. They are built out of pine lumber, but have a metal pipe that holds the roll. The pipe allows the roll to be rotated freely when pieces of vinyl need to be cut off fast.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill a 1-inch hole through each 60-inch board. The center should be 2 inches away from the end of the board and 2 ¾ inches away from the edges of the board. Only drill one hole through each board.

    • 2

Set each 60-inch board on edge so they're parallel and 48 inches apart. The holes should be aligned. Set each 48-inch board perpendicularly between them so they're also on edge and spaced 33 inches apart. One of the 33-inch boards should be flush with the ends of the 60-inch boards that do not have the holes drilled. Screw through the 60-inch boards and into the 48-inch boards. Use eight screws.

    • 3

Position a 36-inch board perpendicularly inside each corner of the frame. The ends of these boards should be flush with one side of the frame. These are the legs to your vinyl cutting stand. Screw through the frame and into the legs. Use four screws for each leg.

Position the stand upright and lay your plywood on top so that the edges are flush. The ends of the 60-inch boards with the holes should be 12 inches away from the 51-inch edge of the plywood. Screw the plywood to the stand using 16 screws.

Hold your vinyl roll perpendicularly between the 48-inch boards with the holes aligned. Insert the pipe through the holes so that it supports the roll. Screw the end-caps on the pipe to secure the roll.
