How to Build a Firewood Holder Using Metal

Firewood racks store split firewood for easy access. They can store up to a quarter truckload of split wood. Firewood holders are often made of wood, but you can make them using metal as well. Building a simple wood base that holds metal pipes is a very quick and easy solution to building a firewood holder.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • 2 pine boards, 4 by 4 by 51 inches
  • 2 pine boards, 2 by 4 by 14 inches
  • 4 metal pipes, 1 by 40 inches
  • Screw gun
  • Drill
  • 1-inch drill bit
  • 8 3-inch wood screws

      Lay two 51-inch boards flat, parallel and 7 inches apart. Set two 14-inch boards flat on top of them at right angles so they are spaced 44 inches apart. The outside edges of the 14-inch boards should be flush with the ends of the 51-inch boards. Screw the 14-inch boards to the 51-inch boards using four screws for each board, two screws for each end. Space the screws 1 ½ inches apart.

      Drill two 1-inch holes through each 14-inch board and through each 51-inch board. The holes should be 1 ¾ inches away from the ends of each board and centered, 1 ¾ inches away from each edge.

      Insert a pipe into each hole These pipes will hold your firewood on the rack. Stack your wood so the pieces are at right angles to the 51-inch boards.
