DIY Metal Stand

Metal stands are storage devices used to store sheets of metal, plastic or wood. Stands for these materials are strong, stable and will not compromise the safety of the products it stores. You can make a simple metal stand using metal pipes and various joints. A metal stand like this requires only a few minutes of your time and a common plumbing tool, and building your own metal stand for your garage or workshop will increase the organization capacity of your work or storage area.

Instructions

    • 1

Screw a 36-inch pipe into the base of each T-joint using your T-joint. The T-joints will rest on the floor and the 36-inch pipes are vertical supports to your metal stand. Use the pipe wrench for every pipe fitting application in this project.

    • 2

Connect two pairs of T-joints with a 10-inch pipe so the pairs of 36-inch pipes are parallel and aligned. Screw the last four 10-inch pipes into the last four open holes on the T-joints. The 10-inch pipes are part of the base to the metal stand and keep it stable. These two sets of pipes are the sides to your stand.

    • 3

Screw an elbow on to the ends of the 36-inch pipes so each pair bends in the same direction and so their bends are at right angles to the 10-inch pipes.

    • 4

Position the sides of your stand upright, 62 inches apart, with the openings on the elbows facing each other and aligned. Screw the 62-inch pipes into the two pairs of elbows.

    • 5

Store your sheets of plywood, sheet metal or similar materials on edge and between the pairs of 36-inch pipes. They will rest on these pipes and the 62-inch pipes.
