How to Make a PVC Piping Play Area

Play areas provide a designated area for small children and the toys that they play with. They are constructed with non-hazardous materials with soft edges. PVC pipe is strong enough for playpens and play areas like this. It can be modified using standard woodworking tools and glued together using PVC plumbing glue. Build a PVC piping play area for your small child or children in less than an hour spent in a garage or other work area. It will be their safe haven for various entertainment activities.

Instructions

    • 1

Drill 38 1/2-inch holes into each 76-inch pipe so they're spaced 2 inches apart and all aligned. These holes will hold the 30-inch pipes that are the vertical bars to the play area.

    • 2

Glue a corner joint on the ends of two pairs of 76-inch pipes. One of the openings on each of the joints must bend in the same direction so if you are holding on to one of the pipes the openings should either face toward you or away from you. The other holes of the joints are parallel with the holes on the pipes.

    • 3

Lay a pair of pipes with the elbows flat so they're resting on the openings of the elbows that are at right angles to the 1/2-inch holes and so that the 1/2-inch holes are facing each other. Insert a 30-inch pipe into each of the 1/2-inch holes, and glue a 26-inch pipe into each of the pair of 3-inch holes that are facing each other on the corner joints. These are two sides to your play area.

    • 4

Lay the last two pairs of 76-inch pipes so the 1/2-inch holes are facing each other and insert the 30-inch pipes into the holes. These are the last pair of sides to your play area. Glue the ends of the 76-inch pipes into the corner joints on the sides you created in the last step. You have a 6-by-6 feet area for playing. The glue corner joints will keep the frame intact and the 1/2-inch pipes secured.
