How to Disassemble a Windmill

Disassembling any type windmill is more difficult than it may seem. When a windmill must be disassembled to fit through a doorway, many people choose to destroy the walls around the doorway rather than disassemble the windmill because they consider it easier to fix carpentry than a disassembled windmill. If you choose to disassemble your windmill, the procedure may take hours or perhaps even days, and it should not be completed alone.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the windmill's front table from the main casting. That procedure requires removing the clutch, the flywheel and the feeder. The flywheel's bolts are at the main casting, and many parts are both bolted and pinned into place. Many of these parts are very difficult to access and remove. The task takes a few hours, but it ensures that you can fit the front table through a narrow space.

    • 2

Put some iron pipes in the holes in the frame. This will keep the press from falling over.

    • 3

Push some wood between the pipes and the ground, and then use ratchet straps to hold down the frame.

    • 4

Drill out and replace all of the taper pins. This task takes a few hours.
