Measure the height and width of the area where the wall will go.
Cut two 2-by-4-inch boards to match the wall's width. These will be the top and base of the stud wall. Lay them parallel to each other on the floor, with the outer edges separated by the height of the wall.
Cut your vertical 2-by-4-inch studs to match the height of the wall, less 3 inches. The 3-inch measurement takes into account the actual size of the top and base of the wall. Cut one board for each 16 inches of wall width.
Place a stud between the top and base, even with the left edges of the top and base. Screw the top and base to the vertical stud with 3-inch wood screws, inserted from the upper and lower sides of the top and base boards, respectively.
Place your next stud in position 16 inches to the right of the first stud, measuring from the center of the first stud. Screw it into position.
Continue placing studs every 16 inches. Place the last stud even with the left edge of the top and bottom boards. The wall is ready to be placed in position.
