Rock-climbing walls can be thrilling for those gym-goers who want some adventure in their workouts. Having a rock wall in a home garage is a convenient way for climbers to stay in top shape during the colder months. Rock-climbing walls at home save you the expense of having a gym membership. Additionally, a rock wall at home allows you to avoid crowds and focus on your personal strength levels and fitness goals. A garage is an ideal location to build a rock-climbing wall because you can make it as simple or elaborate as you like while keeping it out of the main living areas of your home.

1
Select a wall in your garage that is free of windows. The wall should be blank and easy to access. Draw out your climbing route on a piece of paper.
-
2
Purchase rock-climbing holds from a sporting goods store or an online retailer. Drill several 3/8-inch mounting holes all over the wall to create a climbing pattern.
-
-
3
Hammer each of the climbing holds into the holes. Screw the holds into place with a drill using the supplied steel bolts. Continue to install the holds until you have built an entire climbing route.
-
4
Drill lag bolts to the top of the wall to mount a pulley system for a rope that lowers and catches you as you climb the rock wall.
