How to Copy Blueprints

Blueprints are used by engineers and contractors to construct buildings like homes and skyscrapers. These detailed drawings include the location of windows, doors, steps, framework and other detailed information needed for the construction process. They are printed on blue-line diazo paper that is either 18 by 24 inches or 24 by 36 inches. This paper is blue and the drawings are in white. The drawings are typically drawn to a scale of 1/4 inches to 1 foot.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact a builder or engineering firm in your area that has a diazo blueline machine that they are willing to let you use. You may have to pay a small fee for the use of the machine.

    • 2

Place the blue-line diazo paper into the paper tray of the diazo blueline machine.

    • 3

Place the blueprints you wish to copy in the top tray of the machine. To the right there is a keypad where you can key in the number of copies you wish to make, then press "Start"

    • 4

Monitor the machine while it is copying so that none of the blueprints get stuck while going through the machine.

    • 5

Remove the original blueprints that will come out into the same tray you put them in and the copies that will be expelled on the right side of the machine. Inspect the copies to make sure the lines are not blurry and the copies are complete.
