How to Build Your Own Bar at Home Out of Wood Supply

Building your own home bar is probably easier than you may think. Having a bar in your home is great for entertaining guests, as it will give your home a fun feel during parties or other social events. Using some readily available, cheap material you can quickly put together a very impressive home bar. Even if you do not have a good deal of woodworking experience, you can still put together a basic, yet perfectly effective home bar.

Measuring tape
Pencil
MDF sheet (1/2-inch thick)
2-by-4 inch wood planks
Hammer and nails (2-inch and 4-inch)
4-by-4 inch wood posts
Circular saw

Instructions

  Measure and cut out your four bar panels from a sheet of MDF (medium-density fiberboard). Label each piece once cut. The front panel should measure 84-by-42 inches, the two side panels should measure 42-by-22 inches, and the top bar panel should measure 96-by-28 inches. Other types of wood besides MDF can be used, depending on availability.

  Cut the 2-by-4 inch supports to length using a circular saw. You will require four 17-inch lengths, four 42-inch lengths, two 84-inch lengths and two 35-inch lengths. Cut four 4-by-4 inch posts to 42 inches at this time as well.

  Lay the two 42-by-22 inch side panels on the floor then place two 42-inch long two-by-fours along each 42-inch long side of each side panel. Nail through these supports into the MDF sheeting using 2-inch nails. Place the 17-inch long two-by-fours along the other edges of the side panels and nail through them into the MDF using 2-inch nails.

  Lay the front panel on the ground and nail the two 84-inch long two-by-fours to the two 84-inch long sides of it using 2-inch nails. Nail the 35-inch long two-by-fours to the other sides of the front panel as well. Reinforcing the MDF panels with these two-by-four planks will give strength to your bar, making it sturdy and long-lasting.

  Place the 4-by-4 inch posts under the front panel along the edges of the 42-inch long sides, flush to them, and nail through the two-by-fours, MDF and into the 4-by-4 posts using 4-inch nails.

  Stand up the front panel and place the 42-inch long sides of the side panels flush over the surface of the 4-by-4 posts. Nail through the two-by-fours, MDF sheets and into the 4-by-4 posts to secure the sides to the front panel using 4-inch nails. Nail through the other side of each side panel into the two remaining 4-by-4 posts to give a little stability to the bar frame.

  Place the top MDF panel on top of the three-sided bar, with a 6-inch overhang on either side as well as the front. Mark the position of the 4-by-4 posts and nail through the top panel into the ends of each of the four 4-by-4 posts.

  Paint the wood surfaces of your bar with a selected paint and enjoy.
