How to Protect an ABS Pipe Under a Concrete Slab

ABS pipe is a lightweight plastic pipe that is easy to install above or below ground. ABS pipe has excellent chemical resistance and is recognized by every major standards organization in the world. The installation of ABS pipe under a concrete slab can be done successfully if a few guidelines are followed. The pipe must be installed before the slab is laid.

      Dig a trench the entire length of the ABS pipe run that is to be underneath a concrete slab. The trench should be at least two pipe diameters deep. For instance, if the ABS pipe is 2 inches in diameter, then the trench should be at least 4 inches deep.

      Line the bottom of the trench with gravel or backfill material and tap down. Install the ABS pipe on top of the backfill and ensure it is supported.

      Add backfill material to the sides of the ABS pipe and on top of it. Cover the pipe with dirt and backfill material and tap until firm.
