How to Install a Frameless Glass Shower Panel to Tile

Frameless shower door systems can help open up a shower design, eliminating bulky metal frames that break up the view. They can be composed of various pieces including single doors, doors and panels, or simply fixed panels. While a door is attached to the tile by hinges, which are screwed into place, panels, which do not move, need more support than a single hinge or bracket could give them. Instead, they are held in place with U-channels, thin strips of metal that the glass fits into. They only attach the glass to the tile and do not frame out the panel, giving it the sleek, frameless look that is desired.

Instructions

    • 1

Squeeze a thin line of silicone adhesive onto the tile on the wall where the panel will be fixed. Press the U-channel into place and hold for a moment until it is secure.

    • 2

Squeeze a second line of silicone adhesive onto the tile where the bottom of the panel will be fixed. Press the second piece of U-channel into place and hold until secure. Allow both channels to dry completely; follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying time.

Slide the glass panel into the bottom U-channel and gently push it straight back until it comes in contact with the wall U-channel. Squeeze a thin bead of silicone caulk along the edge where the panel and U-channel meet to create a waterproof seal. Let the caulk dry in place for 24 hours before using the shower.
