How to Install a Drop-In Jacuzzi

You may install a Jacuzzi for physical therapy purposes, relaxation or to increase your home’s property value. Whatever the reason, you don’t have to sit there dreaming about the day the contractor you hired arrives to install your Jacuzzi. Instead, you can install the Jacuzzi outside your home. Irrespective of where you install your Jacuzzi, you must follow the manufacturer’s directions and recommendations and let a licensed electrician or plumber complete the dangerous portion of the work.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the Jacuzzi’s location. Measure the areas where you want to install the Jacuzzi. Eliminate areas where you have to squeeze the Jacuzzi into the space. You must allow for sufficient clearance. Thus, you want the space large enough to access panels, the Jacuzzi pump and provide proper air ventilation for the motor while it’s operating.

    • 2

Dig eight foundation holes in the ground to install the Jacuzzi. The holes must be 4 feet below the average frost line. Place each hole in a diamond pattern along the Jacuzzi’s outer tub edge. Also, place another hole next to the seat pan edge. Pour cement into the holes and insert post anchors. Repeat for each hole, then let dry.

    • 3

Connect posts and post anchors together to install the Jacuzzi’s framing. Drill two bolt holes into the posts then insert the bolts. Join the carriage bolts and posts to the drilled horizontal frame pieces. You want to cut support pieces at a 45-degree angle, pre-drill holes in the wood, then fasten the horizontal support pieces and posts together. Repeat the process until the inner and outer support frames are completed. Look at the height of the framing to make sure you’ve provided enough clearance for the Jacuzzi’s drain.

    • 4

Secure the stringer, commonly called the staircase, to the Jacuzzi using screws to complete the stairway. Nail the riser, which provides support to the stairs, to the stringer. Secure the treads, or steps, on top of the riser using screws.

Insert the Jacuzzi tub into the frame. Carefully, drop the Jacuzzi into the frame. Use a level to check all sides of the Jacuzzi. You must have the Jacuzzi level with the ground on all sides. Secure the Jacuzzi to the frame using the hardware provided by the manufacturer.

Place caulk between the Jacuzzi and frame. Using a caulk gun, slowly spread the caulk along the Jacuzzi seams to prevent damage, such as water from entering the ground or frame.
