DIY Acid-Etched Frosted Glass Shower Doors

Acid-etched frosted glass shower doors offer a unique form of privacy. While ultimately see-through, the frosting treatment obscures the view, alleviating the need for light-blocking shower curtains. If your current shower doors are not frosted, it can be costly to replace the glass. There are few do-it-yourself methods of obtaining the same obscurement that vary in time and cost, all of which are more economical than completing replacing the glass doors.

Instructions

Apply frosting film to the shower doors. Frosting film is a self-adhesive tape that clings to the glass doors. Frosting film is one of the least expensive ways of obtaining a frosted effect on your shower doors. The downside of the film is that if not carefully applied, air bubbles may become trapped in the tape.

Spray the shower doors with a frosting spray. Frosting spray applies just like spray paint. Coat the doors in smooth, even strokes. Allow proper time to dry -- wait 24 hours before using the shower -- and allow for proper ventilation during application.

Paint the shower doors with acrylic wall glaze. The acrylic wall glaze is simple enough to apply and creates a realistic etched frosted glass look. Apply the glaze with a paintbrush in smooth, even strokes. The glaze goes on clear and will dry opaque.
