DIY Old Bathroom Vanity Made Updated

A makeover of your old vanity will give the bathroom an updated look on a budget. The project is one that is possible for most homeowners to do on their own. The materials to update the reused vanity cost significantly less than completely replacing the vanity. Paint, stain and new knobs are the basic home improvement items to use to achieve a new look for your old vanity. The way you update the piece depends on its current condition and your desired look for the bathroom.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the doors from the vanity. Sand the base and the doors to remove the existing finish. Use a chemical stripper, if necessary, to remove the finish. Wipe away the dust left from the sanding process.

    • 2

Paint or stain your old vanity a new color. Consider the other colors in the bathroom when choosing the new vanity color. Apply paint with a roller in thin, even layers to get the best look.

    • 3

Replace the doors with new cabinet doors, which are available at home improvement stores. Replacing only the doors is less expensive than replacing the entire vanity but will give the vanity a completely new look.

    • 4

Install new knobs on the vanity doors and drawers. If the knobs you choose are metal, look for the same type of finish that is on your faucets and towel racks so the knobs coordinate with the rest of the room.

    • 5

Add a decorative wood trim along the edge of the vanity. Paint or stain the trim to match the rest of the vanity.

    • 6

Attach a decorative wood carving or decorative piece to the vanity to add an ornate touch.
