What Other Types of Tile Go With Travertine to Decorate a Bathroom?

Travertine is a natural stone that varies in color from a light beige, which is more common, to rust. It is also available in shades of blue, green, yellow, gray and pink. This durable limestone also comes in a variety of finishes, including polished, honed, brushed and textured. This variety of colors and finishes lets travertine complement a variety of other tile materials for a natural and cohesive appearance in your bathroom.
  1. Marble

    • Marble is a high-end product that blends well with travertine. Marble is available in lighter colors, such as beige, cream, ivory or honey like travertine, making lighter hues of travertine easier to match with marble. Both stones are naturally-occurring and have a vein pattern in them that makes each slab unique. Marble tile can line your vanity counter while you use travertine for your bathroom floors. Use a polished travertine to mimic the glossy surface of marble or use a travertine with a honed finish to create a contrast between the finishes.

    Ceramic Tile

    • Ceramic tile is available in many of the same colors as travertine. Functional and affordable, ceramic tiles can line a shower and complement the nearby travertine floors. Ceramic tiles are mass-produced, so they will come in a uniform pattern unlike natural travertine. This slight contrast between the pattern on the tile and the natural composition of the travertine will be aesthetically appealing. Ceramic tile is available in a polished finish, so you can match it accordingly to the travertine.

    Porcelain Tile

    • Porcelain tile is one type of polished ceramic tile. One benefit of porcelain tile is that is resistant to moisture, making it an ideal tile to use as a vanity backsplash or to line your shower or bathtub area. Travertine can be used in combination with polished tiles as flooring or as the countertop surface.

    Onyx

    • Onyx is a tile that has a pearl coloring. This makes it easier to match it to the beige colors that are more readily available. Use the onyx around your bathtub or use it in combination with other tiles to create a mosaic look for your shower lining. Use the travertine tiles for your flooring and vanity.

    Granite

    • Granite tiles are available in a variety of colors from light creams to dark black. Granite works well in bathrooms since it isn’t damaged by water. Use a travertine backsplash against a granite countertop for a contrast between the two tiles and finishes.

    Quarry Tile

    • Quarry tile is an unglazed tile and is useful in a bathroom since it is slip-resistant and doesn't absorb water. Its matte finish will enhance the look of travertine since the matte finish will help the tile also look like natural stone.
