The Colors of a Cultured Vanity Top

Cultured marble is a molded product that can be manufactured in any number of designs and tinted a variety of colors. In vanity tops, the synthetic material is often favored over true marble and other natural stonework because of its durability. If you are thinking about replacing your vanity top with a cultured product, do some research, because quality can vary.
  1. Overview

    • A cultured marble vanity top is a synthetic product that is composed of natural marble dust mixed with a polyester resin. The resulting product is used for bathtubs, showers, back splashes and wall panels, as well as vanity tops. Many people prefer cultured marble to the real thing because natural marble is porous and stains easily. Cultured marble comes in a range of colors and is available in high-gloss and satin finishes. Small scratches, chips and other blemishes can be buffed and repaired, but serious flaws like cracks cannot be repaired.

    Colors and Finishes

    • Cultured marble comes in a range of finishes, as well as colors. Beside solid colors, you can order a cultured marble vanity top that has more than one color in a swirled or veined pattern. Granite finishes appear quite similar to natural granite, and onyx finishes provide a translucent solid background with one or two swirled accent colors.

    Standard Colors

    • Companies offer a choice of standard colors and patterns. White combined with neutral shades of beige, bone, silver, gray and brown is one example of a standard option. White on white is another standard option. Additional standard options may include white swirled with blue, sea foam, rose, dark blue and green.

    Solid Colors

    • Solid colors typically include white, bone, biscuit and pinkish beige. Because they are so neutral, they blend with most color schemes in a bathroom and are popular choices for vanity tops.

    Granite and Onyx Colors

    • Cultured vanity tops also come in granite and onyx finishes. Vanity tops with a granite-style finish have a base color and specks of other colors. The onyx provides a distinctive tone-on-tone appearance. In granite finishes, beige shades such as oatmeal, sand, mocha and cappuccino are popular. Shades of gray are also available, along with pink and ecru hues.

    Special-Order Colors

    • Some companies offer additional colors available by special order. Deep purplish blue, dark sea green and terra cotta can be ordered from several manufacturers. Pewter gray and shades of white like vanilla can also be ordered. These special-order colors are available in a speckled-granite finish.
