Shapes and Sizes

• Prefabricated shower stalls are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, including square, rectangular and rounded. Another option is the neo-angle shower with a five-sided diamond-shaped base for corner installations. Corner styles are space savers and are useful in small bathrooms, having two formed walls and a glass door enclosure. Square or rectangular showers typically have three sides with a glass door. Prefabricated stalls range from 32 inches to 60 inches in length.

Fiberglass Shower Stalls

• Most prefabricated shower stalls are made of fiberglass, a low-maintenance, lightweight, durable material. Styles include molded stalls or stalls made of sections of fiberglass fastened together. Door enclosures include glass doors, although some fiberglass shower stalls have a shower curtain closure.

Tile or Glass Showers

• Creating a tile shower involves installing ceramic tile on one or more of the shower walls. A ceramic tile shower allows you to choose your own design, colors and patterns to coordinate with your bathroom décor. The tiles are durable and resist scratches. A ceramic tile shower stall is more decorative than a fiberglass enclosure, but requires more upkeep to keep it looking good. These shower stalls may include glass door enclosures or may have no door with a walk-in entry. Glass shower stalls are made with glass blocks, colored glass, stained glass and etched or frosted glass. The stalls have a more contemporary design. Most stalls include a door, but doorless, walk-in options are available, as well.

Features

• Prefabricated shower stalls provide the option of sliding doors or doors that open either in or out, installed with a framed or frameless design. The shower stall may have integral shelves for soap and shampoo storage, a towel bar and a built-in seat. A single or double shower head is an option, as well as a handheld shower sprayer. With a free-standing shower, you can have a wide range of features, including a soap dish or shelves built into the wall for convenience. Multiple shower heads can be included, as well as built-in shower seats or benches.
