How to Attach FRP in a Bathroom

Bathroom walls are subjected to constant changes in moisture. Covering bathroom walls with a moisture-resistant wall covering will alleviate the problems associated with moisture absorbing into porous wall coverings like drywall, paneling and plaster. Fiberglass reinforced plastic sheeting keeps moisture from damaging porous wall coverings while providing a durable wall covering that also resists impact damage. Attaching FRP panels correctly will ensure they do not fall off the wall after installation and ensures they will keep moisture out of bathroom walls.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place FRP sheets in the bathroom. Allow them to sit in the area for 24 hours to acclimate to the temperature and moisture content of the room.

    • 2

Measure the height and width of a bathroom wall with a tape measure.

    • 3

Place two pencil marks for the height of the wall as well as two for the width of the wall on the back of an FRP sheet. Connect the two height marks with a straight line. Repeat the process with the two width marks. Cut along the height line with an adjustable shear. Cut along the width line with the shear to cut the sheet to size.

    • 4

Pour a 1-inch wide, z-shaped ribbon of FRP panel adhesive on the back of the cut sheet. Pull a 1/4-inch V-notched trowel across the sheet in a sweeping motion to spread the adhesive across the entire back surface of the sheet.

    • 5

Push the adhesive-covered side of the sheet against the wall. Roll a rubber laminate roller over the exposed surface of the FRP sheet until all of the air bubbles are removed from behind the sheet.

    • 6

Slide a length of FRP molding strip over both vertical edges of the installed sheet.

    • 7

Repeat the process until all bathroom walls are covered with FRP sheeting.
