How to Install Anchor Bolts for a Pedestal Sink

Anchor bolts go through holes in the rear of a pedestal sink’s bowl, literally anchoring the bowl into the wall. Since a pedestal sink’s bowl sits loosely on the top of the pedestal stand, the bowl must be attached securely to the wall to keep it from shifting or falling off the pedestal stand as you fill the sink with water. You must also anchor the sink’s bowl into place so it is level, otherwise the water in the bowl may spill out one side and not the other.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the sink’s pedestal in front of the plumbing in the bathroom wall. Peel the backing off one side of some rubber cushions, and then place the cushions on the edge of the sink pedestal to hold the sink’s bowl steady later.

    • 2

Place the sink’s bowl on the pedestal and lay a level across the top of the bowl width-wise. Slide the sink’s bowl on the pedestal from side to side until the level shows the bowl sits level with the floor.

    • 3

Mark on the wall the position of the sink bowl’s mounting holes using a pencil. Lift the bowl off the pedestal and place the bowl and pedestal in a safe location away from the markings on the wall.

    • 4

Drill pilot holes into the wall where you marked with the pencil. Thread two nuts onto the sink’s hanger bolts, tightening the nuts against each other so neither nut turns easily.

    • 5

Thread the anchor bolts into the pilot holes by hand. Clamp an adjustable wrench onto the dual nuts on the bolts, and then turn the nuts as well as the bolt clockwise until the anchor bolts sit securely in the pilot holes. Unthread the nuts off the bolts by turning them counterclockwise with the wrench.
