How to Level a Whirlpool Bathtub

A whirlpool bathtub’s interior at the bottom has a natural slope to the drain so that water runs toward the drain opening. The rest of the tub should sit level or the water may not correctly drain out or over one of the sides that’s lower than the others. Your whirlpool bathtub comes with edge support ledges that help keep the tub’s top tub level during and after the installation process.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bathtub in the space where you wish it installed, testing that it properly fits. Lift the tub back out of the installation site and make any necessary adjustments so the tub fits.

    • 2

Place the edge support ledges that came with the bathtub against the wall studs where you wish to install the tub. Position the ledges so they are at the height of the tub’s top ledge.

    • 3

Place a level on the ledges and shift their positioning until they are level before driving wood screws through the support ledges’ mounting holes and into the wall studs. Mix the amount of mortar with water as specified by your bathtub’s manufacturer. Spread the mortar on the floor with a trowel where the tub will rest.

    • 4

Lower the tub into position, placing its top ledges on the supports. Putting a level on the tub’s ledges ensures it is level. Insert shims under any low-lying sides of the tub until it sits completely level.

    • 5

Drive the screws that came with the bathtub through the mounting holes at the tub’s top flange, anchoring them into the wall studs.
