How to Attach a Pedestal Sink to the Wall Without Studs

A pedestal sink’s base and bowl must both be securely attached to the bathroom floor and wall, otherwise they can topple over while you are using the sink. Normally, you would anchor the sink’s bowl to the studs in the bathroom wall, but if you cannot find studs you can still securely attach the sink to the wall. Toggle bolts feature small wings that expand once they reach the inside of the hollow wall, holding the bolts tightly against the wall.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the sink’s base on the floor, positioning it in front of the stub-out drainpipe in the wall. Peel the backings off of self-adhesive felt pads, and then stick the pads to the top edges of the pedestal.

    • 2

Place the sink bowl on the pedestal and lay a level across the bowl. Position the bowl until it sits level, then mark the location of the bowl’s mounting holes on the bathroom wall, as well as the pedestal’s mounting holes on the bathroom floor.

    • 3

Remove the bowl and sink pedestal and drill pilot holes where you marked on the wall and floor. Replace the sink’s pedestal and bowl, lining up the mounting holes on the wall and floor.

Drive screws through the pedestal’s base and into the holes in the floor. Insert toggle bolts into the bowl’s mounting holes and the holes you drilled into the wall, and then turn the bolts clockwise with a screwdriver until they hold the bowl firmly in place.
