How to Measure the Shower Threshold for Marble

Tile shower enclosures have a raised area, which is called a curb, at the bottom of the door opening. The shower curb prevents water from leaking from the shower stall into the bathroom, and it typically has tiles that match the remainder of the shower enclosure. Some installers, however, choose to install a single marble threshold on top of the curb. Because a marble threshold is a single piece, the top of the curb must be measured carefully to determine the correct threshold size.

Instructions

    • 1

Kneel in front of the shower curb, and place a tape measure on the curb's top flat portion. Slide the end of the tape measure all the way to the left side of the curb.

    • 2

Hold the end of the tape measure in place at the left side of the curb, and stretch the rest of the tape measure flat across the curb to the curb's right side. Note the measurement where the tape measure is at the end of the curb's right side. That measurement is the required length for the marble threshold.

    • 3

Reposition the end of the tape measure at the center top of the curb, and push it back until it touches the curb edge nearest to the shower.

    • 4

Hold the end of the tape measure in place at the curb edge nearest to the shower, and pull the rest of the tape measure toward you to the front edge of the curb. Note the measurement where the tape measure crosses the curb's front edge. It is the width required for the marble threshold.
