How to Renovate a Bathroom With a Vaulted Ceiling

A vaulted ceiling in a bathroom can open up the room, making it feel airy and light. However, the high ceilings add an extra element to the remodeling plan because of the additional vertical space. Cosmetic changes made to the ceiling itself, as well as to the decor in the bathroom help tie the room together without making the space feel too tall or uninviting.

Instructions

    • 1

Analyze the current bathroom features and design to determine exactly what you want to do with the renovation. Identify the items you wish to replace, such as the vanity, light fixtures or bathtub. Decide if you want to keep the vaulted ceiling or lower it to give a cozier feeling in the bathroom.

Paint the ceiling a color slightly darker than the walls to make the room feel cozy if the ceiling seems too tall for the room.

    • 3

Install beams along the vaulted ceiling if the bathroom is large. The beams add warmth to the ceiling and add visual interest to the vaulted ceiling, emphasizing and and making it a focal point of the bathroom.

    • 4

Hang a large piece of artwork or a large mirror on the tallest part of the wall. The large size of the piece fills in the space, making the ceiling seem closer and cozier.

Install lighting fixtures on the wall above or beside the vanity mirror in addition to any fixtures on the ceiling. Wall-mounted lights near the mirror reduce shadows on your face when you look in the mirror. Since the vaulted ceilings are taller than normal, an overhead fixture does little to provide task lighting for the vanity area.
