Installation of a Grinder Commercial Bathroom

A grinder pump is a management device that aids in the transport of waste from toilets to public sewage systems. While grinder pumps are important for private homes, they are also essential for commercial bathrooms. Before installing a commercial grinder pump, permission may be required from local authorities.

Instructions

Prepare the space for commercial grinder installation. For best results the grinder should be placed underground, so as to minimize offensive odors. Dig a hole for the grinder system, making sure it is slightly larger than the machine itself. The hole should be at a depth that allows the lid of the grinder to be accessible from above the ground. Finally, make sure that the soil is tightly compacted before inserting the grinder system.

Install the commercial grinder system. Most have two openings, one for the admittance of waste, and another for the retrieval of waste. Use PVC pipes to connect the admittance opening to the pre-existing sewage system. At this time the float alarm system, which alerts owners when waste exceeds a specific height in the grinder system, can also be installed. Depending on the brand of the grinder system, this process may vary dramatically. Most systems will come with instructions for proper installation.

Backfill over the commercial grinder system. The appropriate type of backfill to secure the grinder system depends on the type of soil in which the machine was placed. Commercial owners may want to consult with local home improvement stores to determine which type of backfill is best. Clay and silt should never be used, as they can easily compact around the system. The backfill should be poured around the system and compressed.

Identify the location of the grinder's vent pipe. It is essential that this pipe is not blocked with water or dirt, and is exposed to clean air. Some commercial owners install grinders on a sloping surface to ensure blockages will not develop.

Test the system. Grinders which have been properly installed will successfully receive sewage from the building to the underground system. When the waste reaches the float alarm level, the grinder will activate and process the waste, pumping it to the city sewage. When levels fall below float alarm levels, the grinder should automatically shut off.
