DIY Light Panel Diffuser Reflector

Light diffusion panels are used to reduce the harshness of photography lights, creating a softer lighting finish on photographs. A light panel diffuser typically consists of a frame holding a sheet of fabric, which acts as the reflector to evenly disperse the light. Although, these can be purchased, you can make one yourself in as little as a day with some easy-to-find supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a U-shaped frame by inserting three 12-inch PVC pipes into the four PVC elbow joints. This should result in two long pipes on each side, and a pipe going across the bottom, with a gap at the top. Apply PVC glue to the ends before connecting the pieces, if desired, to strengthen the joins.

    • 2

Connect the two 5-inch pipes to the T connector on both sides of the T. Connect the two ends of the exposed pipes to the open elbow joints at the top of your U-shaped frame. Make sure the T connector is at the bottom of the frame.

    • 3

Attach half of the hook-and-loop fastener strips to each side of your diffuser frame. Do this by removing the backing and sticking the halves in place.

    • 4

Align the other hook-and-loop fastener strips onto the vinyl shower curtain directly flush with the hook and loop fastener strips on the frame. Then attach the vinyl shower curtain to the frame.

    • 5

Insert the last PVC pipe into the open end of the T connector. Use the open end of the PVC pipe to connect the frame to a light stand.
