Removing a Brass-Plated Aluminum Shower Frame

During a bathroom remodel, you can remove and replace your brass-plated aluminum shower frame. The aluminum frame is held into place by screws and wall anchors, so removing it should not damage your walls. Removing the shower frame does not require much time.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Soften the caulking along the frame. Use a caulk remover to help loosen the caulk. Follow the manufacturer's directions on how to apply the caulk remover, and then allow it to sit for the specified period of time.

    • 2

Peel away the caulking by hand and with the help of a razor blade. Cut through any difficult pieces, and use needle-nose pliers to help pull the caulking away from the frame.

    • 3

Unscrew the drip rail from the bottom of the frame. The screws run along the channel in the drip frame.

    • 4

Remove the screws from the door’s hinges, and then remove the door. You might need an assistant to hold the door while you remove the screws.

    • 5

Unscrew the screws along the top of the frame. If the enclosure is screwed into the ceiling, the screws will run along the interior side of the frame. If the enclosure does not touch the ceiling, the screws will be along the top side of the frame. Remove the top of the frame.

    • 6

Unscrew the screws along the side panels of the frame. Have an assistant hold the panels as the glass inside might shatter if the panel falls. Removing the panel will not loosen the glass, since the glass is glued into the panel.

    • 7

Remove any remaining pieces of the frame by unscrewing the screws, and then pull the frame away from the wall.

    • 8

Pull out all the wall anchors with the needle-nose pliers.
