How to Cut a Shower Pan Liner Around a Curb

A shower pan liner helps to give the base of your shower enclosure a waterproof surface beyond the shower pan itself. For the liner to work properly, you must cut it to extend over the curb of the shower enclosure so the cut area does not itself leak. It’s not a difficult process, but it will require careful fitting of the liner and attachment to the sides of the enclosure, as well as to the curb itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the liner into the center of the shower enclosure and unfold the material so it covers the floor, including the drain, and overlaps the curb.

    • 2

Press the liner into the corner between the floor of the enclosure and the curb, working from the center of the curb toward its edge. When you reach the edges of the curb against the enclosure wall, cut a slit in the liner so it lies flush over the curb while also running about 9 inches up the wall. Fold the liner in the corners so it lies flush against all the walls.

    • 3

Staple the liner edges to the walls of the enclosure. Drive a staple into each wall stud, then place one between the studs. Fold the liner tightly over the curb. Then staple it to the edge along the top of the curb on both sides and onto the base of the outside of the curb.

Cut the excess liner from the main sheet along the joint line where the curb meets the floor outside the shower enclosure.
