Measure the height of the vanity and then draw the outline of the vanity on the wall where you wish to install it. Measure the depth of the vanity and mark that measurement on the bathroom floor using masking tape. This helps you see whether the vanity will obstruct anything else in the bathroom, such as pathways or other bathroom fixtures, allowing you to change the vanity’s position before you install it.
Locate the studs in the wall, using a stud finder, inside the vanity measurements you drew on the wall. Mark the stud locations with a pencil above the line for the top of the vanity so you can see them with the vanity in place later.
Measure the distance from the edges of the vanity measurements you drew on the wall and the drainpipe stub-out and water supply valves in the wall. Transfer these measurements to the back of the vanity. Cut access holes larger than the stub-out and supply valves using a drill and hole saws.
Slide the new vanity into place against the wall, lining up the outline on the wall with the vanity. Place a level on the vanity, measuring from front to back and side to side. Drive wood shims under any low-lying parts of the vanity until it measures level.
Drive wood screws through the back of the vanity. Use the marked stud locations to help anchor the screws in the wall studs behind the vanity. Spread an even bead of silicone caulk onto the edge of the sink opening and then lower the sink into the opening.
Spread plumber’s putty on both sides of the faucet’s deck plate. Position the deck plate over the faucet holes in the sink and then insert the faucet through the deck plate and the holes in the sink. Thread the nuts onto the underside of the faucet, tightening the connections with the basin wrench. Thread the water supply lines onto the water supply valves and underside of the faucet using the basin wrench.
Wrap a rope of plumber’s putty around the underside of the drain assembly and then insert it through the drain opening in the sink. Tighten the compression nut onto the underside of the drain assembly, using an adjustable wrench. Wrap pipe tape around all drainpipe threads before hand-tightening the pipe connections.
