How to Install Door Stops for Frameless Shower Doors

Creating a stylish and seamless look for your shower is easy when you install a frameless shower door. These doors generally operate on a pivot that controls how the door swings inside and outside the stall. It's possible to use too much force and overpower the pivot, causing damage to the adjacent wall. You can stop the door from going too far into the shower stall and keep the wall safe with a door stop on your frameless shower door. You can either install a rubber-tipped beveled style door stop or insert a stronger pivot door stop inside the door hinge.

Instructions

  1. Beveled Style Door Stop

    • 1

Choose a beveled style frameless shower door stop to fit your 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch glass door.

    • 2

Slide the beveled or open side of the door stop over the top edge of the fixed glass panel of your glass shower.

    • 3

Secure the door stop to the glass with a nylon-tipped screw using a socket wrench. Use a 1/4-inch wrench or 3/8-inch wrench to fit the screws.

    Pivot Door Stop

    • 4

Hold the glass door in place, and insert the end of a small nail into the bottom of the door hinge at the top of the door.

    • 5

Tap the nail lightly with a hammer until you can grasp the pin from the top of the hinge. Keep half the pin inside the hinge to keep the hinge together.

    • 6

Slide the hole on the pivot door stop over the pin until it sits flat on the hinge so the arm with the rubber stop faces the shower wall.

    • 7

Strike the pin back into the hinge lightly with the hammer until it is tight inside the hinge.

    • 8

Adjust the door stop as needed by screwing or unscrewing the door stop arm.
